I was reading over the applications for this Jam after the auditions and growing more and more inspired and touched by each actors’ desires and goals. It lead me to think about the road of one’s life, and how important it is to remember what we love, what lights us up, what we hope for in the world. Our soul speaks in these places, which is why those connected moments feel so tingly and thirst-quenching and visceral, and why when we hear it in others’ art ( music) or see and experience it in artists’ visual & performance art we can’t help but respond with a full-body energetic, Yes!

In all honesty though, it is easier said than done. That is why my focus this week promoting this show has been on bringing the feelings attached to my desires and goals to every action, meeting and rehearsal, so I can expose both the glee and the challenges that arise. I spoke with Marc Adam Smith, our host for Sunday’s Jam, about this yesterday: how our art can continue to grow and begin to shimmer with our personal feelings, beliefs and actions. As we continue to bring our desires and goals to life, how much can we continue to learn? What gets difficult when we act on our personal desires and goals, and why is this? What do we want to hide from? This is where it is not so easy because what we may not want to see, is also completely obvious to everyone else. Artists share this personal interplay with the world. We live out what our soul needs to experience for itself.

This is what I’ve been desiring to be accountable to, and have been intending for the Monologue Jam to encourage and facilitate among supportive artists. Looking forward, very much, to Sunday!
